Meet our New Workshop Partner: East Fork Pottery
Please join us in welcoming our newest workshop partner, East Fork Pottery! Based near the Blue Ridge Mountains in Asheville, North Carolina, East Fork is a proud B Corp manufacturer of gorgeous ceramic dinnerware, and collectible pottery. Using regionally-sourced clay from the American Southeast, these USA made products are all thoughtfully crafted by skilled potters and artisans who prioritize a spirit of community, kindness, and appreciation for centuries-old ceramic traditions. Each of the 6 year-round color palettes, in addition to their bolder seasonal shades, invite you to mix and match to your heart’s desire, or keep things simple with a more neutral, or monochrome elegance. Founded by passionate and devoted potters in 2009, East Fork is family-owned and operated in every sense of the word; from husband and wife team, Alex and Connie Mattise, to longtime friend and partner, John Vigeland, and finally to the cherished community of other artisans they’ve carefully cultivated over the years, this team is devoted to expert quality pottery that brings people together with warmth and love.
Good Values Make Great Pottery
One of our favorite things about East Fork Pottery is their commitment to upholding the values that matter most to them. With compassion, equity, sincerity, accountability, and adaptive tenacity, they don’t just strive to do more for their customers, but for their employees, suppliers, communities, and environment too. Their dedication to these pillars is evident from their actions, from ensuring solid living wages, to partnering with local, non-profit organizations that work on behalf of racial equity, and communities affected by discrimination, sexism, and heteronormative biases. In an effort to be continuously growing, adapting, and improving, East Fork strives to create the kind of collaborative, safe workplace where everyone can feel empowered to do their very best work every day.
Doing Their Part To Reduce Waste
At Urban Natural, we’re always on the lookout for workshop partners with a sustainable approach to manufacturing whenever possible. We especially appreciate the more creative ways many of them have devised to help reduce production waste, and minimize strain on our natural resources. As a certified B Corp, East Fork Pottery adheres to a higher bar of social and environmental responsibility, in addition to maintaining strict standards for transparency and accountability to customers, workers, community, and planet. They also offer their own unique and admirable blend of sustainability efforts and community accountability through their Seconds Program, which offers slightly imperfect pieces at a discount, with a suggested donation to their community partner. The program seeks to minimize unnecessary waste, while also providing additional aid to organizations working to better serve people and planet.
