7 Sofa Styles Interior Designers Love
Slipcovered, upholstered, relaxed, modern? What’s your style? We’ll walk you through seven styles of sofas to guide you during your sofa-buying process. You’ll get to know what interior designers are marking as sofa trends to continue from 2022 to 2023.
1. Pillow Back Sofas

Pillow back sofas (or cloud sofas) are for you if you prioritize comfort over everything. Cisco Home’s signature relaxed California styles are embodied in the Donato and Cordova Sofas. Both sofas come in multiple size options and can be configured with or without a slipcover. Upgrade to luxurious feather and down fill for unreal cloud-like comfort.
With deep seating, it’s easy to snuggle up for movie nights (warning: you’ll probably find yourself falling asleep on this couch a few nights a week). Need more space than a sofa has to offer? The Donato can be customized in several sectional configurations to make room for everyone.
2. Rolled Arm Sofas

Rolled Arm Sofas are commonly found in traditional living spaces, but can also work for mid-century style rooms. The sofa's depth, leg style, and fabric will navigate which space is fitting. If having a place to rest your arm is important to you, this sofa might be a good option.
The Henrietta, pictured above in luxurious John Derian velvet, is a great example of how traditional elegant arms become modern with a sleek metal base. This sofa can easily coexist with mid-century modern and traditional furniture. In line with Cisco Home design, this sofa has a deep seat so you can have cozy-up comfort and a polished look.
With a sofa like the Savoy from American Leather, the fabric or leather you pick will give way to the direction of the decor style. With hundreds of options to choose from, you can make this rolled arm sofa fit a traditional space or a contemporary one. Camel and cognac leathers aren’t going anywhere in 2023; these colors are easy to incorporate with black oaks or natural woods like cherry or walnut. They practically go with everything. If you want an elegant look, you can’t go wrong with leather, especially the premium quality top-grain leather from American Leather. (Helpful tip: all fabric/leather swatches are free. 3. Modular Sofas

Modular sofas allow you to have the custom size without the custom price tag. You can configure these sofas to fit into any space, large or small, in any which way you can think of. You can add two extra chairs to both sides and pull those out into accent chairs to create a conversational space when entertaining.
The N701, designed by Jacques Deneef for Ethnicraft, is a deep-sitting sofa. The curved, low profile creates an illusion of taller ceilings, making for a spacious and attractive modern living space. You can choose from 6 pieces to configure the perfect sofa: 1 seater (chair), 2 seater (loveseat), 3 seater (sofa), corner, rounded corner, and a footstool. The chair, loveseat, and sofa can all stand on their own. The rounded corner adds a design detail that pops if floating the sofa in the middle of a room. With this many perks, it’s no surprise it’s an Ethnicraft best-seller.
Cisco Home’s high-quality upholstery really shines in the Century Modular Sofa. The double-stitching mimics the modular effect is what makes this piece unique. Our in-house design experts suggest picking a moody fabric like distressed indigo or hunter-green velvet. They can see it fitting perfectly in an industrial loft-style apartment. Of course, it has the Cisco Home comfort that we are all obsessed with. Ingeniously they added a curve to the seat and back for enhanced comfort.
4. Curved Back Sofas

One of the newer trends to come out of High Point Market (the largest furniture showcase in the world) is curved back sofas. They are here to stay, according to interior designers. If you have the space to float a piece of furniture in your living room, the design of the back matters. It will be the focal point, so you need a wow factor. A unique curved shape does just that.
Both the Ellipse Sofa & Heidi Sofa have a seamless look from the back of the sofa to the arms, which is very much on trend going into 2023. The curved lines make the sofa look like a piece of art. We especially love that it softens the space and creates a more intimate area. The curved lines will help room flow, creating positive energy.
5. Track Arm Sofas
Viola Sofa by Luonto (Left), Allister Sofa by Cisco Home (Right)
Didn’t love the curved trend? It’s not for everyone. If you are a minimalist, you might be drawn to a track arm sofa, a clean and classic style. This sofa is similar to the rolled arm where the depth and leg define the home decor style's direction.
The Viola by Luonto features a wooden birch base with mid-century splayed legs that will never go out of style. The simple and clean lines represent the Scandinavian design the Viola embodies. You’ll love that this piece is part of the quick ship collection, so you won’t have to wait long wait times.
The Allister features a slender frame with a metal base giving it a modern look when upholstered. This sofa also can be slipcovered, creating a softer look with the same track arm. Designers Howard Backed and Vicky Charles recently added this sofa to Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis’s home. You can read the feature in Architectural Digest by clicking here.
6. Tufted Sofas

When you find yourself googling Bridgerton-inspired decor (because, yes, Regencycore is trending!) you probably aren’t looking for a full home makeover in this style, but it can be modernized. Tufted sofas add a layer of elegance to your space that can be mixed and matched into any setting.
The Cisco Home John Derian collection is perfect if you are ready to make a few Regencycore design updates in your home. John Derian researched 19th-century design and transformed them into pieces suited for the present, creating lifelong home heirlooms. The Brook Sofa and the Coop Sofa will be your space's shining stars, especially upholstered in luxurious velvets from the same collection.
7. Slipcovered Sofas
The modern farmhouse trend isn’t going anywhere, it's just evolving. And the one part of it sure to stay is slipcovered sofas — they go hand in hand with the trend. Also, we're all about a good farmhouse design, but what we love (and probably you love more) is that you can remove the slipcover and wash it! This is a game changer when life gets messy, and we know it does. With a slipcovered sofa you don’t have to sacrifice style anymore.
Newly introduced from Cisco Home is the Hunter Sofa. The sofa frame is grand and a real eye-catcher. This sofa allows you to have a proper seat with its high back and arms, while its depth allows you to still sit on the sofa comfortably. You get the best of both worlds with this one.
The Louis Sofa is a best-seller for a reason. The style is timeless, and the comfort is 10 out of 10. It’s a classic style sofa that is suitable for many spaces. It can be anything from coastal to modern, depending on the fabric. And it's available as part of Cisco Home's essentials collection —you can get the same quality at a lower price for all of Cisco Home’s best-selling sofas, chairs, and sectionals.
